Project
Desert Living Center
Visitor's Centers and Schools
The Desert Living Center is a new desert living demonstration complex on a 185 acre site near downtown Las Vegas, NV. In an effort to obtain a LEED Platinum Certification from the U.S. Green Builders Council, energy and water were important design considerations.
NSI worked closely as part of an integrated design team with the Las Vegas based firm Lucchesi, Galati Architects, Inc. (http://www.lgainc.com/). NSI’s role was to design an on-site wastewater treatment and reuse system incorporating passive treatment technologies that are part of the landscape. The final treatment system cannot be distinguished from a beautifully executed landscape. The final result is a beautiful integration of landscape architecture and ecological engineering.
Wastewater from an expected 600,000 visitors per year will be treated and reused in subsurface drip irrigation systems and also to provide water for toilets onsite.
