Project Context

Serenbe is a new subdivision consisting of approximately 900 homes and associated small businesses, located in Fulton County,GA. The land plan is based on Conservation Design principles which limit the total area
covered by lots and roads to a maximum of 20% of the total land. The remainder of the land is kept as southern hardwood and pine forest, pasture, and wetlands.

NSI Contributions

NSI tasks were to develop wastewater collection, treatment and reuse systems that were in keeping with the developer’s goals of an environmentally sensitive project. The small diameter collection system allows construction of the sewer system with minimum damage to the environment. Sewer installations on the winding and hilly streets are kept in the roadway. Treatment consists of primary treatment (at each home), subsurface flow constructed wetlands, recirculating sand filters and UV disinfection. Reclaimed water is supplied to a subsurface irrigation system in a pasture.  In the future, a reuse system my deliver treated, disinfected effluent for landscape irrigation and toilet flushing throughout the development.
