Hanson, Chris, and Betty Lakes

Small Communities

Print-ready PDF

Hanson, Chris, and Betty Lakes is a small community of 350 homes built around a series of small lakes next to the Platte River near Bellevue, NE. Over the years the homes changed from summer residents to year round residents with the subsequent pollution from the septic tank leach fields. As water quality in the lakes deteriorated, and well water began to show signs of pollution, the Health Department encouraged the community to sewer all the lots.

Continued growth and failing septic systems put pressure on the community to get organized. Eventually they voted to create a Sewer Improvement District and sewer the homes. The option of pumping the sewage to the City of Bellevue was very expensive, and was without a long term guarantee of service.

In cooperation with the local Omaha engineering firm Olmsted and Perry Consulting Engineers, Inc., we designed a wastewater treatment system to complement their small diameter sewer system.
