Project Context

Punta Cacique is an upscale resort destination, located in Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica. The property comprises 650 acres that includes coastal beaches and vistas. The developer Revolution Places is planning a resort community that will integrate both luxury lifestyle traveling and the ecological experience.

Revolution Places assembled a design team that was comprised of both US and Central American talent. The project lead Hart Howerton collaborated with Terrapin Bright Green, Sherwood Design Engineers, Grupo Inmobiliaria Génesis, S.A, DEHC Ingenieros Consultores, and Natural Systems International. The diverse team was able to address many of the site specific challenges that arose during the master planning process. The sensitive ecosystem that surrounded the development was one of the greatest challenges of the site. The design team worked to insure that the environmental impact of the development was considered in every phase of design.

NSI Contributions

NSI was retained by Terrapin Bright Green to examine several key components of the master plan. Specifically NSI addressed the big-picture issues of water, wastewater, and stormwater in a tropical climate, with an emphasis on strategies for resort and community development.

The water balance and the cost analysis of wastewater infrastructure were important contributions to the master planning process. The water balance report and calculations provide a design framework that drives design decisions in later phases of design.
